MIV supports connected AGVs by Fivecomm

It is the first project in which, thanks to 5G technology, an autonomous vehicle develops its logistics tasks in an industrial environment.
Grupo Segura and Fivecomm are developing the use of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) in controlled environments. The results of the tests confirm the possibility of using these AGVs in a factory of automotive components and how they can be integrated in the production chain in a secure way.
Thanks to 5G technology, that reduces the latency, the AGV can move through the factory both in an autonomous manner and with remote driving by a worker.
This system allows the AGV, after having mapped the environment, to develop tasks of collecting and distributing materials. Its devices allow the AGV to avoid obstacles, to stop in front of other objects, and therefore, to reduce incidents and work accidents.
The importance of this project is in checking how the development of 5G will allow in the future, the development of autonomous vehicles for the transport of bulky goods and people. And not only in controlled environment, but also in traffic open spaces
For Alberto España, Chief Digital Officer of Grupo Segura, “the use of AGVs allows to optimize the distribution of pieces to the fabrication points because the supply of material is continuous. Besides, thanks to the previous mapping of the plant, the AGV knows the point in which it must stop for the collection or deposit of parts. From a prevention occupational risks’ point of view, this solution provides a more secure environment because there are no accidents. Moreover, its functions are complementary because the robot can also be used in a remoted way, in the case you want to drive it remotely.”

About the MiV
Elena Lluch, manager of AVIA and spokesperson for the Mobility Innovation VLC has emphasized that the objective of the MiV “is the survival of the automobile sector in the Valencian Community. For this, it is important to adapt the sector to the new challenges posed by the change in the mobility paradigm and the attraction of innovation and international projects. This project is strategic because from the MiV we are trying to attract European funds to convert the Juan Carlos I Park into the first industrial park with 5G”
The MiV has had the support of the Generalitat Valenciana, through the Department of Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Commerce and Labor.
In the first analysis sessions with companies and innovation agents, the MiV has identified up to 28 possible challenges related to the new mobility and four of them have the capacity to be solved. This is because in these four challenges the interest of the industry and the resolution and demonstration capacity of technology providers are aligned. The project developed between Grupo Segura and Fivecomm is one of these four projects where all the conditions come together: industry, innovation and business will.
